Linux distro for Dell PowerEdge 2650

A very newbie version.

Hardware: Dell PowerEdge 2650, 2.4GHz CPU, 1.5G RAM and two SCSI hard drives

I have to build a squid server out of the 2650. Which Linux distro do you recommend?

Tried Ubuntu 12.04 LTS but often the NIC goes asleep and can't be woke up. I have access to SLES also. ... will probably try SLES 10 soon.

Slackware.

Maybe put some more RAM in it, though (like, maybe 4- 8G or so; it'll go to 12G I think).

Hope this helps some.

ive run CentOS 5/6 both on those "servers" with very little issues. keep in mind those servers are also certified to run RHEL, thus my choice for running CentOS as its a direct fork.
