Linux Desktop Server

The challenge:

How does one make a Linux Desktop server to serve the local network?

Some details of the setup:

The Linux box has a distro with apps, x windows, etc...
From any point on the network one can log on to the Linux and use a desktop for themselves.

The server box is connected to a router that has wireless access and in which other machines are connected to it.

The computers, including wireless ones on the network would be client boxes.

The server box will be left on forever or turned off during the night.

How do we setup the Linux?

thank you

Try to make the answer as clear as possible, as though explaining to newbies.

I think the term that you could also use is the term "Terminal Server" I would start looking at the Linux Terminal Project

Project Page
Wikipedia Entry

These should get you started
