linux as thinclients connecting to wts question
 

I am wanting to redesign my network at my house and I want to go with linux as my thin clients and a windows 2003 server. I want to know what the best way is to do this. I want seamless windows on my thinclients. I have looked into citrix vs wts but not sure what is better for what I am needing.

*EDIT* I wanted to clarify what I need. I want the thinclients to be able to access windows apps (outlook, photoshop, office) and be able to access these apps at the same time (if need be)

Yes, there are several ways to do this.

1. If the thinclients have some sort of hard drive, install a minimal linux distribution on the hardrive, but include X and rdesktop. Boot the thin client into linux and use rdesktop to connect to the Windows terminal server.

2. Use a live CD product like ThinStation to boot the thin clients, then connect to the Windows terminal server with rdesktop or openVNC or such.

3. Install a linux terminal server (like LTSP), boot the thin clients off the Linux server over the network, then use rdesktop, etc, to connect to the Window terminal server. You oculd probably go with something like FreeNX as a replacement for LTSP here, but I haven't tried it.
