Limitng bandwidth in apache for https
 
Hi to all, I succesfully installed on an apache server running in debian the mod_bw ( http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/http..._bw/mod_bw.txt ) for limiting the bandwidth.
My /etc/apache2/sites-available/default file is:

The normal traffic is throttled as I wanted BUT I'm not able to limit the bandwidth on HTTPS traffic, which is what I want.
Someone coul help me please?
I've tried to play with virtualHost ecc.. but with no success

PS: in the code I've submitted to you the bandidth limiting is disable, I know.

I'm not an expert in this, but from a brief look at some docs, I *THINK* that the lines you've commented above (bolded in this reply), should be just before the </VirtualHost> line. Also, the "Bandwidth all 0"...the 0 should be some number, but you may already have that in your production site, and have it 0 for the example, as you said.

Also...the virtual host you defined is for port 80....https is port 443, so you'd have to define a second virtual host for the https rules to take effect.

Ok thanks.
I've moved theese lines before the virtualHost statement (don't worry about the zero in bandwidth) but still not working for shaping https traffic.
Actually I don't know how to add a virtualhost, should I also change something in /etc/apache2/ports.conf?
I keep getting errors when changing something so for sure I'm doing it wrong

Right...because the one virtual host you defined is for STANDARD HTTP...port 80. The very first line of the config you posted:

You need to add another whole section for port 443, which is HTTPS, and put the bandwidth limiters in there too. And if you have a zero in there when you uncomment it, things won't work right either.

The best examples for this would be on the Apache site:
https://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/vhosts/examples.html

I'm not an expert with virtual hosts, so I can't offer much more guidance past that, but I'm sure others here will chime in. Posting the error(s) you get will help us help you, too.

Yes, but if i move the lines you said out from the virtualhost shouldn't them be available for all ports? (80,443 ecc..)

No. In my initial reply, I said put those lines just BEFORE the </virtualhost> (end of virtual host segment). You define two vhosts..one for port 80, and one for port 443 (http and https).

And again, if you post the error(s) you're getting, we will have more to go on.

Now I get no error when restarting apache, but bandwidth shaping is still no workink in https. Iv'e also tried to copy and paste the content of default-ssl after my default but with no success
