LDAP: fail to bind with correct password

I'm having a really weird problem. I am running two ldap servers, with the slave using syncrepl to be up to date with the master. Since our servers are down in the server room, they all use the master ldap for authentication, while our desktops use the slave since it is located up here with them. I use "cn=nssldap,ou=DSA,dc=x,dc=x,dc=x" as the rootbinddn for authentication.

Now here is where things get weird. This only works if they use the master ldap, not the slave, I get an Invalid Credentials (49) error. Using ldapsearch shows the same thing. The password entries from both servers match, and so do the acls. I'm confused as to why this is happening.
