Question Kernel panic

hi friends,

i have installed the RedHat CentOS 3 on the server.yesterday night i have rebooted the server and i got the error "unable to open an initial console" "kernel panic:attempting to kill init".
i have tried to boot the system in a single user mode, but still the system is returning the same error.
will you please help me to solve this problem?

Hi.

Hmmm. Had you updated any packages (especially kernel packages) before the reboot? If so, try picking a previous kernel from the GRUB menu, and see if you get any joy.
