I suppose you tried to find the kernel panic error in /var/log/messages with this:
Quote:

[root@STYLUSINCN1 ~]# cat /var/log/messages | grep err
And you didn't find it. This is what you mean with: "Please find..."?

Where do you see this kernel panic message? It can be also useful if you tell us about the process how did you get this message.
Is this new installation and you cannot boot after setup? Or it was running some time and it started show this error?

linuxrndblog 03-02-2011 02:35 AM

Hi Hua,

I have checked the kernel boot error messages from /var/log/messages/ by using cat /var/log/messages | grep err command.

Error kernel panic – not syncing : Fatal exception is displayed on Server's Login Screen then after some time this server got hanged automatically. So we require reboot and after restarting this server, it is working fine. After some hours same things happened again and again.

hua 03-02-2011 03:05 AM

Usually there are some useful information on the screen when the kernel panic error appears. At the moment when this error happens the system has already gone and probably won't log anything into logs. When I have problems with kernel panic I found useful information on the screen several lines before the actual error. It was a hard drive partition failure.
Try to get some more information from the screen when the kernel panic appears.

There are any useful information in logs you posted. Try dig in more into the logs. Especially syslog. I would try also dmesg. Look for any failure, warning, error. (I would guess media failure - hdd)
Grep is useful but only if you know what are you looking for. If you don't it gives results like this:

(NOTE: This is not a failure - I get this log too on my raid arrays)

Hi Hua,

Please find the dmesg log. I have kernel panic error file but it is not txt format. It is in .JEG format. So how I can attach this file in this thread, Please let me know. There is no issue in hard disk or RAID-1.

It looks like a BIOS bug.

This logs are useful:

It will probably need BIOS update. I had never done this on alive server so I can just tell you what would I do:

This questions are important.

1. Is this a production server? - If yes, you should backup everything and be prepared for the case it won't boot after BIOS update.
2. You should find the exact model number of your motherboard and check if there is a new BIOS for your motherboard. You can also get information about the issues which was corrected by the new BIOS.
3. Find a method to update your BIOS.

Since I doesn't have that much experience with this, I can only recommend you to continue asking about the dmesg output with the BIOS bug.
Maybe it would be useful to consider starting new thread with BIOS bug and BIOS update name.

BUT PLEASE WAIT TILL ONE OF THE MODERATORS (ADMIN) CONFIRMS THAT IT IS A GOOD IDEA. I don't want to get you in the "double post" issue.
(It is also possible that I am wrong - please continue searching for information)
