kernel multipath messages

Hi

We are running an Intel server with Linux Centos 4.2 and kernel 2.6.9-22.ELsmp. The server has recently started to produce multipath related error messages a regular intervals every couple of days. From looking at the messages it appears that the fault corrects itself after about 30 seconds.

Can anyone tell me what might causing these multipath error messages and what the messages actually mean?

The server is part of a simple SAN using Qlogic fibre controllers. The Qlogic controller is not showing any errors an neither is the RAID disk enclosure.

Hello. Any resolution to this problem?? I have experienced these same errors this week. In fact, our Oracle database failed during the same time as these SCSI errors. We are running Dell Poweredge 1950s with QLogic 2460 HBAs (4 GB), attached to a Hitachi NSC55 san.

I contacted the supplier of the external RAID enclosure about this issue. They had not heard of the problem before but did suggest the following.

Quote:
(You will have to schedule the downtime to do this)

http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/FAQ_46_9001.shtm

You may safely ignore the mkinitrd step as you do not need the
qlogic volumes to boot the systems.
