Jetty Bindexception: address already in use

Hi all

After a long time, i am back in working with my favourite OS linux , i had configured few jetty based instances with different ports

now when i restart one instance it says address already in use,

timebeing, what i did was kill all the java instances running on it and restart the apps, now it works fine for me

i am curious to find out how to clear the port bind instance

for eg: instance bind to port 8180 has to be cleared instead of killing all java instances

can anyone help me?

well it would just suggest that something is already listening on that port, a java process which unbinds from the port when you kill java. see what lsof says about who has that port... "lsof -i tcp:8180"

Look at "sudo netstat -tlup" to find what program is listening on the port. Or "sudo lsof -i"
