All support for the 9.04 ended last month. An upgrade is mandatory if you wish to receive security updates and bug fixes in the future.

Is there a way, to upgrade from a LUCID disc?
I have Backups ... but a manual upgrade....
never did trust network upgrades.
Still lucid to maveric went well on my regular day to day box.

When I upgraded my server distribution, I ran into trouble with some processes not starting. The work around was to change the start priority number in the rc.d folders. If I recall correctly, it had something to do with extra delay in bringing up the network interface and some processes wouldn't start without networking running first. So, when you do upgrade, be sure to double check things like spam assassin, amavis, ftp servers, etc, basically any service process, and watch them for a while. Also do some restarts and verify that things come back up properly.

You must upgrade incrementally from Jaunty to Karmic to Lucid to...
If you have the Lucid disk and want to do a fresh reinstall, that would be the clean and elegant solution, IMHO. Upgrades can be somewhat problematic in Ubuntu...
