Issues changing port for ProFTPD

I'm trying to change the default port from 21 to something like 2500 for my FTP server. I had the server up and running perfectly on port 20/21. However, once I change it to 2500 I can only access it fron within the local network. Yes, I have of course opened port 2500, and even tried opening port 2499 and 2501 as well, with no luck. FlashFXP connects on port 2500, but then comes up with some completely random port that it of course cannot connect to because its not open.

I don't remember the port off the top of my head, but I want to say it was something around 50000.

Unfortunately, it's never the same port, so I can't just open that port on my server. How come when the server was running on port 21 for data, it defaulted to port 20 for the command connection. Theoretically, shouldn't it default to 2499 for the command connection when 2500 is used as the FTP port?

Either way, how can I get this up and running?

Thanks,
Mike

You should use the "PassivePorts" directive to define a range of ports to use in passive mode and then open these ports in your firewall. Take a look here for details.
