Issue after starting sendmail

Hi all,

In one of our server the sendmail did not startup after the reboot. This was not noticed for a long time (around 2 weeks). On this server we have some scripts which occasionally fires email to us for say when any disk is full or CPU or memory utilization is high.In this case there when one of our admin started the sendmail all the 2 weeks queued email were flushed(around 5000)most of them unwanted to us.I just wanted to know if any one has faced same issue before and tried any thing else than renaming the mailq file.

Please can any one suggest on it.
Thanks in advance

Prasad

May I ask? ... What is the 'problem' here?
you want to delete the queued emails or what?

Hi,

I want such a way so that we can avoid any big mailq getting flushed after starting sendmail.
Something like the sendmail should not process the mailq and send the stuck emails unless we clear it manually.Or any one has any solution who has faced the same problem.

Thanks
Prasad

Ok...I will "suggest you":

- Don't bump your thread after less than 24 hours
- Answer the questions others as you (like the one from chitambira)
- Write clearly

If you have a lot of email queued up and DON'T want to send it, go into the mail spool directory, and delete it, before you start your email service.
