iSCSI storage question

As a complete newbie to iSCSI just wondering if someone could let me know if this is conceptually possible:

Linux host serving NTFS partitions (via NTFS-3g) as iSCSI targets.
Virtualised Windows Server acting as iSCSI initiator then sharing these as normal Windows file shares.

Does that sound possible or have I misunderstood what iSCSI can do?

I am going to say yes you can format a iscsi as ntfs and in a way share it.

Why not use samba/cifs?

Samba/cifs not good because the Linux VM Host partition is doing this and that will always start-up before the Windows ADS, therefore cannot visualise how Windows authentication could work in such a senario.
