is there an alternative to BIND for a DNS server
We have been trying to create a DNS server with no success with bind since it's extremely complicated to learn in such a short amount of time. is there a nice alternative (for Linux and BSD or can just be one of those Linux is preferred)

Hello,
Have a look at this page from WikiPedia. It lists the most (if not all) DNS software packages and their principal features. We use PowerDNS at work in a global distributed network and it works very good and is a lot easier to configure then bind.
Kind regards,
Eric

Alternative to Bind
Personally, I use DNSMASQ.
If I need one, it makes a pretty good DHCP server, but the default configuration is an excellent local and caching DNS server for my local network.
It is light, fast, VERY easy to configure, and in the repository list for most distributions.
