Is there a way to setup an email server easily with the postfix and dovecot commands

I am setting up an email server in a lab environment and I was searching for simple ways in which you can setup postfix, the postfix program comes with a command and a set of options that are used to setup the email server without having to edit any text files by hand (should make everything easier). Walk me through the process (or link me to a guide) on how to setup postfix with the postfix command to get everything up and running. also is there an easy way to setup dovecot without having to edit text files by hand?

if you refuse to edit config files by hand on Linux, you're going to have a bad time. It's not easier to not do this. The default configs for Postfix and Dovecot generally work very well, and with a well defined base OS to run on, it should pick up the domain name of the server and accept mail for that domain without doing anything.

is there a way to make it validate users from the standard unix user file (wherever the users are stored) and make it authenticate passwords from the passwd file?

I believe it will deliver local mail (users on the machine) and dovecote will automatically use the username and password from the system to authenticate users and get them their mail. If I am also not mistaken last time I installed dovecote on Debian it was configured by default to only use encrypted connections for retrieving mail.

depends exactly what you mean by "validate" but it won't accept mail for users that don't exist by default

for sending? Sure, but it's not a very common thing to want to do - https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=po...nticate+passwd
