Is BIND necessary if your registrar provides Full DNS control?
 

I am learning the in's and out's of the LAMP stack, I am fairly proficient with Ubuntu-Server, and want to make the switch from a Shared host to my own VPS. But I still have a few lingering questions;

Is BIND necessary to host websites if your domain registrar allows full DNS control?

My registrar (GoDaddy) allows me to manually create A records that I can point to the IP (and even subdirectories) of my VPS. So simply by doing this, can I just dump BIND all-together? I realize mail (sendmail-mta) might also pose an issue, but can't I just then use the (GoDaddy) DNS control to setup an MX record to point to my VPS's IP?

I guess the better question is how much resources does BIND use? If the amount is negligible, I might as well keep it, but I figured I could offload some of the DNS load onto my registrar to save some resources. Or what other benefits are there of using BIND on a webserver that I might be missing?

Bind is needed only if you want to control the domain through your own domain controller and do
not want to use third-party domain servers.
