Installing squid on Internal LAN.

Hello everyone,

I didnt really know what to search for but after reading about squid and how to configure the squid.conf file, I am here to ask about a certain network setp.

I have a Windows Server acting as a gateway to the internet(via ICS). What I would like to know is if it is possbile to install Squid on a workstation inside the LAN. Every request it receives needs to be forwarded to the gateway (since it will not act as a gateway itself).
Is this possible or does squid have to be installed on the server itself?

Thank You in advance

Squid doesn't have to be installed on the server. We have squid running on our LAN and have configured its default gateway to point at another server.

Thanks for the reply, is there anything specific i have to configure on squid or is it enough i give the proxy server the gateway of the windows server?

It is a simple as setting the gateway and then directing your users at it. One thing to note, you may need to ensure users cannot bypass the proxy by adding a Internal rule to block all traffic on port 80, except the proxy.
