Exclamation Installing Red Hat 7.2 on a Dell Vostro 200

I'm trying to install a Red Hat 7.2 on my server Dell Vostro 200 but it seems to have a driver problem.

It is not recognizing its hard drive neither its DVD drive. This server was original with Windows and we use ghost to restore a backup from another server.

How can I make it recognize those drives?

You're probably better off trying a distribution that is actually up to date. RH 7.2 is rather old, buggy and the CD it's on is probably worth more than the actual software on it.

If you provide some more details about your hardware though, like make, model, etc, we might be of more help though.

I'll see your "rather old" and raise to "ludicrously obsolete".

@Asagath, please don't waste your time (and others' time) trying to get RH 7.2 up and running, unless you have a very good reason that you're willing to communicate.

A couple simple choices:
  1. Run the latest Fedora if you want glamor and bleeding edge.
  2. Run the latest RHEL if you're willing to pay for a license and support a good company.
  3. Run the latest CentOS if you're not willing to pay for a RHEL license.

Yeah, if someone is gonna run something that old, at least use 7.3, it was a much more stable environment at the time.

As for the problem, you might be seeing grub prompt from a previous install. You can't just go installing an OS from a grub prompt, it's a boot loader, not an OS installer.

Yup and probably using SATA that might not have been supported in RH 7.2. Time for the OP to go download himself a new ISO to attempt to install from.
