This is what I've done for our Oracle Grid Control and Oracle RAC servers.
By default Red Hat tries to set up a single / filesystem and swap space (both as LVs). What I would recommend instead is illustrated by this example scenario:
You have 500GB drive space for your installation.
- Set up a 40GB / filesystem as your first LV.
- Set up swap space as your second LV.
You can always increase the size of the LV your / filesystem is on after the fact. (It's a pain and requires at least one reboot to reduce the size of a LV the / filesystem is on, BTW.)
This gives you the flexibility to add a /u01 filesystem (or whatever) for your DBAs later.
