install linux redhat 5 server to support oracle 10g 2


Hi Friends,

I will install linux redhat linux 5 for oracle 10g 2. How to created correct partition of linux to match oracle 10g 2.
I install linux as server style. any advice? such partitioning driver.how to 5 more partition. please steps in deatil.

I am beginer

Reinstall and do a custom install that allows you to create the partitions for an Oracle setup. Also use LVM so it gives you flexibility with managing partitions and your drives.

This is what I've done for our Oracle Grid Control and Oracle RAC servers.

By default Red Hat tries to set up a single / filesystem and swap space (both as LVs). What I would recommend instead is illustrated by this example scenario:

You have 500GB drive space for your installation.
  1. Set up a 40GB / filesystem as your first LV.
  2. Set up swap space as your second LV.

You can always increase the size of the LV your / filesystem is on after the fact. (It's a pain and requires at least one reboot to reduce the size of a LV the / filesystem is on, BTW.)

This gives you the flexibility to add a /u01 filesystem (or whatever) for your DBAs later.
