Implementing a secure file sharing (NFS like) server

I have experience implementing NIS and NFS in fully autonomous networks that are well hidden behind firewalls and proxies running NAT etc.

My new change is to provide similar functionality but in a more paranoid way.

I configured ldap over ssl to provide secure centralized logins for each box, however I still need to implement a way to centralize directories such as home and a few others.

Are there any options for providing network file sharing in a secure and encrypted manner and if so what are the recommendations?

Thanks!!

I should add that I would like to configure this to use some sort of auto mounting capability. I have mounted NFS over ssh before however I am not sure how to configure auto mounting using the same mechanism. Can that be done?

Works like a charm!!! Thanks for the info.

Nest step is setting SSHFS up to use autofs so the directories can be automounted.
