IBM Netfinity 5000 won't install FreeNAS, or any other Linux Distro
Hello all,
Here is the situation.
Recently the IT Department at my workplace decided to install a virtual server, and virtualize Ubuntu 8.10 (they used Fedora but no other distro's). After we took this step we installed FOG and sent in a request for the main IT team to make a change in our Windows 2003 DNS Server since we did not have permissions. They sent us back a email that said they couldn't enable a feature that we needed and there was no work around. We decided to take a couple of old Netfinity 5000 and put everything that we could in to one. It has 2 GB of ram and one PIII 500mhz processor. We have a sata adapter located in a pci slot but it has no drives installed on to it. We also removed the floppy. We first tried to install Ubuntu 8.10. The live cd would boot but we got the no cd-rom error. We then found a work around and got it to read the cd-rom just fine. Ubuntu still would not install so we decided to throw a few extra scsi drives in it and install FreeNas, but alas it still will not install even with the work around we found. What could be the problem and how could we fix it? If we can not install Ubuntu that is fine, but we really need one or the other.
Thanks ahead for all the help.
Regards,
Dakota Vincent
