For a good howto on creating webservers, you should go to howtoforge.

They have good howto's. As for ur desktop problem.. You recieving any error messages? Check the xorg error log..

more /var/log/xorg.log | grep EE

xorg.log might have another name though.

Also check dmesg.

It does say something about: "Couldn't start x server, trying with a fresh configuration, trying with card: intel 810." but it is stuck in a loop. every once and a while i can get a command promt but it is by luck. When I do get a command promt, it says "you got mail.
[root@cayman root]#"

does that tell you anything?

Moved: This thread is more suitable in Linux Server and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.

If you want to get help asap, then I suggest you mention whcih Linux distribution and version you are using. You also need to tell us how you broke X. We can also help with setting up the webserver once we know the Linux distribution you are using.

...and to add to that: please don't ask people to email you. Simple rule: ask question here, receive answers here.
BTW, shouldn't completeexportservise@ be completeexportservice@?

come out of xserver problem

as per my knowledge this problem can be solved by following commands

chkconfig xfs on
service xfs restart
chkconfig gpm on
service gpm restart

then

system-config-display
or
system-config-display --noui
or
system-config-display --reconfig

then you will get a screen u have to set your resolution to 1024x768 and 256 colors

hope this will help
