Hylafax - Printing with faxrcvd script

Hi, I have been working on a Hylafax server. Before installing Hylafax, I am joining the box to our domain.

I have posted a complete walk through of my install process, I hope this helps

hxxp://advancingnetworks.com/linux/HYLAFAX_FULL.html

Everything works good, but the faxrcvd script can not print. If I run "lpr fax000001.tif" from the command line (as either "faxmaster" or "root") it works fine. If I execute the faxrcvd script from commandline it also prints fine. Odd, isn't it? Do I have to add the fax daemon to the lp group or something?

I put addition commands (such as "cp $FILE test.tif") into faxrcvd and it is indeed running the script and all the commands within. No matter what I do, faxrcvd will not print the incoming faxes.

I have also tried:

chmod 600 hosts.hfaxd
chown uucp:uucp hosts.hfaxd

These are not included in my install process, but I have tried them with no success. I have no idea what could be stopping faxrcvd from printing, does anyone have any ideas?

would "smbprint" possibly be a better solution than just the "lpr" command ?

I've done some research. It is possible that this is running in a chrooted environment, and the tiff2ps / lpr commands are not available? Is it possible that I can make these commands available to the chrooted enviroment by adding them to the /etc/hylafax/setup.cache file?

I could be going down the completely wrong track...

I solved this problem by dumping Ubuntu and installing Suse. With suse I had to use faxgetty instead of faxmodem, but in the end everything works as it should.

Hi,

I just stumbled on this post while looking for a solution for this issue.

the distro is: "Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 3 (Taroon Update 3)"

After some troubleshooting, I found the following:
- if I print a tif file directly via lp, then something gets printed
- when I create a postscript file from the tiff file with "tiff2ps -a -O file.ps" and then feed the ps file to the printer, nothing happens, the file doesn't even make it into the printer queue...
- also "tiff2ps -a file.tiff | lp" doesn't work.

Any idea why this is happening? It looks like the rights on the folders are still ok and this printing has worked really fine for a long time.

thanks for any suggestions.

I also tried using the faxrcvd from the command line and nothing happens either.

Now I have read somewhere that faxrcvd is running in a chroot but how can I check this?
Also, since it has worked before. How can I start it so it's not running in a chroot?
