HOWTO: Manage Your Documents with Subversion

A good HOWTO on installing, configuring (step-by-step) and using Subversion at home has been published on digg: http://digg.com/programming/Subversi...Can_Understand

Might be helpful to some of you.

Best regards,
Borys

If you prefer something simpler, you can take a look at darcs as well. Still, Subversion is pretty popular and it has a lot of good clients, so I prefer it over other versioning tools.
