Yeah you can use dvd contents somewhere and use it. But better way would have been to attach a dvd drive, and use it as a repository in yum. You could have then used yum to update the system.

How can you even think of booting from a dvd will do a yum update? Start off your CentOS. Login using root. Put your latest CentOS5.5 dvd and then add this dvd as repository source in yum configuration and then do a yum update.

If you got no dvd drive then you will need all the disks for the version. Are there 5 of them or 4? You can add your cd drive as a repository source. But I do not know if that will work as there are multiple medias. What you can do is copy all the contents of the cds into a remote machine and then google on how to create a local repository and use the contents on remote machine to update.
