What happens is you may like to authenticate on one of the webservers which is behind reverse proxy apache then maintain a session variable which can be checked by other server which can be used to serve the video etc.Which is the case with usual LAMP installation.
Correct me if I am wrong.
You can also password protect your directories using .htaccess file.
