How to rename the /home directory?

I have an old server running CentOS 5.10. It is to be changed to become a node as part of another network. Basically it will be cloned to work just like the other nodes on the system, and will import the home from the central server, so that no matter which node any particular user is accessing, they have access to the core file system.

However, I've been told that I have to 'move' or 'rename' the home directory so that when I import the /home from the master server there won't be a conflict.

Is there a way to rename the home directory, or move it, so that once it get's added to the nodal system, and imports the /home from the central server, it won't conflict or crash?

I don't want to rename the /home/some_user directory, all users will be removed. I want everything on my local server (the node) to access the home from the imported home directory of the central server, which has all the user information there. I have searched these forums, and the web only to find out how to rename users, or the /home/some_user directory. But not how to actually move or rename home without crashing the system.

Any insight, or direction towards something I could read to answer my own question would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Code:
mv /home /homeold
?

Then set up the central home directories?

Presumably you will also need to
Code:
mkdir /home
after moving the old.

The central home directories will be imported, I won't have to set up anything new, or mkdir. But doesn't 'mv /home /homeold' cause a crash?

I hate to sound like a complete noob, I just didn't think it would be that simple... Will update after I give this a shot.

Well AlucardZero, it seems it was that easy.

I created a test user, and after I moved the /home directory as root, my test user was unable to log in. But that is to be expected. As all user info will be on the central server though, this isn't an issue.

Thank you.
