How to re-compiling Apache

Hi,

I have complied Apache 2.2.16 on RHEL5 and wants to know what exactly needs to be done if i have skipped enabling a module during the earlier installation. Do I have to re-compile Apache from scratch.

Actually, I missed enabling the proxy module, now I want to enable the feature.

Firstly I used apxs to add the module and it loaded the module, however none to Proxy directives like ProxyRequests appeared in any of the configuration files.

Then I edited the config.nice file and added --enable-proxy in build directory and executed the install, however, again it created the mod_proxy.so file. Again none of the directives were added.

Then i ran configure command as follow:

./configure --prefix=/usr/local/httpd2.2.16 --with-mpm=prefork --with-mpm=worker --with-included-apr --enable-ssl --enable-proxy --enable-mods-shared="most proxy"

This resulted in creation of original directory under install patch and added the proxy modules, however, none of the directives get added again.

Please help in how can i get these directives added to the configuration files.

Thanks.

What happens when you add them?

No, not everything is configured for you at compile time! If you enabled and compiled the module then you just need to configure it yourself.

hmmmm.. so does that means that we need to add directives manually and they don't get added automatically? I googled and found that on some servers there is a proxy.conf which is created and can be edited as per your needs.
