Question How to leave a backdoor for future assistance?

Hi guys,

this question might seem strange, but just to make sure you understand I'm not planning to do any harm. This is about my own servers, or servers that I deliver to customers.

The Problem, Customer needs a server with linux / web server or file server / voip server etc...
I deliver a server with installed linux and requested server.
The server is in use by the customer, and customers IT guy's first level mostly, are managing the basic operations on daily bases.
But sometimes there are changes in the customer's companies some people for example get sick or get fired and cannot assis the customer any more. So customer calls me to help with some problem.
I try to login to the server, but find out that the Passwords are changed. So I'm unable to login.

How can I solve this problem? the only thing that comes up is to install some kind of trojan / backdoor script?

I could add and extra root user, but sometimes the IT guys change firewall rules so then I would need to go on location to the customer each time if that happens, so this is not the best solution.

What could be done ? I need remote acces to the machines.

any suggestion / advise is much aprisciated.

Note again, this is not about hacking anybody, I have full root acces to the servers to install any scripts etc...

thanks in advance.

If I'd found you'd installed a backdoor into a server and hadn't been made aware of it as part of a contract I'd be rather unhappy.

You can write your support requirements for access (must make ports XX,YY,ZZ available, keep user turalo on the system with sudo access, etc.) in to your contract with a "if this is disabled any support action will require on-side access at $XXX per hour" and then if you do need to get back in to a system them on-site boot to single user etc. and charge the company accordingly.

Dear, this is not what I asked, I'm very very sorry for my roodness but if you dont have a solution, then why are you trying to be the hero or how they call it this days the good samaritan ? please tell those tales to the santa.
As I said sometimes IT guys get fired, before that in a moody angry state they could block firewals and change passwords sothat the owner of company will be in a problem.
in this cases it's good for me to help the customer.
It's not about the Owner, owner of the company always knows about this. but it's about the IT manager sothat they are not able to block the 3d level support.

I'm in this business for more then 10 years, I'm really sick of this kind of hero beheviour, I know what I need, I asked about that.
If you would say "well I dont know any solution "I would have much respect for you, but now you are loosing my time with kids bed stories. reality is diferent.
again, i'm sorry if I sound rood.

wow, only 10 years. Amateur.

My suggestions are based on what would be considered "good business practise" but by your reply you're obviously going to ignore it, same way as I'm now going to ignore you.
