Have you examined the BIND (Berkley Internet Name Daemon) document at RedHat?
https://access.redhat.com/documentat...e/s1-BIND.html
Pay particular attention to doing bind-chroot setup as it makes your system more secure. Do NOT change permissions on /var/named/chroot/var/named to solve problems - use the subdirectories (e.g. slaves or masters) for your zone files.
By the way I'd suggest going to RHEL7.1 rather than RHEL6 if possible. The BIND version you get with RHEL7 has a newer base than the one in RHEL6. The bind-chroot setup in RHEL7 is significantly different so you'd want to look at the document for that rather than the one above if you did go to RHEL7.
