How to FTP to my CentOS VPS from Windows

Hi All

I am really having a hard time to ftp to my VPS server remotely from Window. (This is my second day using Linux)

Now I am the administrator so I have root access.

Now I have installed and configured **vsftp** and I also enabled port 21 on the firewall(**iptables**), but when enter the following in my browser(remotely from windows)

ftp.mysite.com

It opens up the username and password prompt, but my root details(with which I log into ssh using putty) does not work.

How do I log in? How do I create an ftp user on the server? All the tutorials I have read just shows what option to change and what to enable/disable. NONE of them actually show you how to physically connect to the ftp server remotely.

I have set up everything exactly as show in this [article][1], but I cannot connect to my server vi ftp...

How do you do this? And please do not give me another tutorial to read.

Thanks, appreciate

You don't log in as root. Use another user name, or try "anonymous" for the ID, and "something@domain.com" as password. Root FTP is disabled by default in vsftpd, since the "vs" stands for "Very Secure". Logging in as root to ANYTHING is dangerous and to be avoided at all costs. So, either create/use another user ID on the system, then log in and move the files to wherever you need them.

When asking volunteers and others for help, dictating the terms of that help is fairly rude.

You can read this guide to enable root vsftpd access:

thank you, appreciate your feedback. Problem is just, people google the problem, and post you back a couple of links to read. I don't really classify that as help, and then they expect 'respect' or points for that.

Anyways, I created a new server user and did the following:

Install ftp:
yum install -y ftp

Enable user access to folder in home directory
setsebool -P ftp_home_dir on
