How to delete printer driver from Samba/cups setup ?

Hi all,

I wish to update the drivers for a printer which is being shared using samba - can I just upload the new drivers and overwrite the old or do I need to delete the old drivers before uploading the new ones?

If I need to delete old printer drivers how do I do this?

Cheers for any help

PB

You need to go to Cups and modify the printer, after you install the print driver on the local system. To modify the printer, you will need root access.

http://localhost:631 Enter this in a web browser, on the host system. Select the printer in question, and modify the printer by selecting the new driver. No reason to delete the old printer. The old driver would only be over written if the file names are identical, you would get a warning the file(s) are being overwritten, and you would have to say that is O.K. before that would happen.

No reason to touch samba at all.

I take it that would work for Linux based printers - this is a networked printer - samba sends a print driver to any windows machine that 'connects' to the printer.

It is this print driver which is sent to clients that I wish to update or delete.

Cheers

If this is a windoze printer, you would replace the print driver in windoze as you would add any drive. Install the file, and select it.

As far as printing from linux to a windoze printer, is there a linux driver you want to update? I'm guessing no. If that is correct there is nothing to do on Samba.
