Question How to convert OSX 10.5 Mini Server's Mail & mailboxes to CentOS linux server mail?

Hello! I have a project to migrate from a Mac Mini Server OSX 10.5 running Mac Mail (IMAP4, no POP, thankfully) with numerous mailboxes to a new server platform running CentOS Linux, dedicated to Mail.

All of the users existing mailboxes & messages need to be preserved. My biggest concern is migrating the mailboxes intact without loss of any messages as this is a functioning business, and my time window is short. Does anyone know of a mailbox migration tool that makes this process easier or painless?

All apologies for a poorly worded Thread Post Title...

Post Converting OSX 10.6.8 IMAP4 mailboxes to CentOS Linux IMAP4 format

Hello LQ folk -

Are there any conversion tools or scripts that are well-tested for taking IMAP4 mailboxes from OSX 10.6.x server's mailbox format to a format suitable for migration to a CentOS linux mail server? I need to keep the users mailbox messages intact.. Many thanks in advance!

you seem to mix up things a little. The storage format of mailboxes isn't a matter of the operating system, it's a matter of the mail server software. So it depends on which mail server you are using under OS X, and which one under CentOS. Maybe they even use the same layout. After all, there are only two different mailbox types that have a notable prevalence.
One is the mbox format, where every mail folder is represented by a single file that holds all messages; the other is the maildir format, where each mail folder is a directory in the file system, and each message is a single file in RFC 2822 format.
