how do you create a wiki site in a linux distrobution
we are trying to create a wiki site in out Linux distributions and we are having a hard time doing so, google searches turn up nothing when we search for guides and programs that can accomplish such things. so we are wondering if it's even possible to create a wiki site with a Linux distribution and apache 2.2 web server. what do we need to install and what do we need to set since this is starting to look like a very complicated process

There are dozens of Wiki platforms you can use. There is (ironically enough) a Wikipedia page that lists the various Wiki software packages:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wiki_software You'll probably want to focus on the PHP based Wikis on that list. |
in your opinion what do you think is the easiest to use

WikiWiki
Wikipedia is based upon WikiWiki, which I heard is maintained there. (See the mentioned site for details.)
I found several sites that place one package as easier than others, but they seem to disagree. You might want to take two or three that are reputed to be easy and try each of them to get the feel for which would serve you better. |
i just found mytiddlywiki and it seems pretty impressive. i was able to adit all the tiddlers when i first downloaded it but for some reason it won't let me edit anything and i have no idea what i did before that gave me the ability to edit the tiddlers. do you have an idea on how to edit the tiddlers because it won't show me the edit link in the top right corner of the text box when i double click on the headers

i just tried out wikimedia and i have a really big problem. instead of displaying the on-screen instructions like i guess it's suppossed to it just downloads the index.php file or a file called download and when i click on them it says that my web server isn't configured to work with php applications correctly what do i have to do in order to get it to install a wiki site

just got moinmoin, it's doing exactly what i want it creates usernames and passwords but there is one problem. there seems to be no way of hosting the wiki page on an apache web server since in order to view one of it's wiki page you need to execute a python file and enter localhost:8080 in the address bar in order to see the wiki front page. how do i make it to where i can view the wiki page over an http server because i don't want it to be just a local server
