How do I update the /dev/disk/by-path without a reboot

In general operation I have multiple mirrors which are managed by mdadm. If one of the contributing devices fails, I replace it with a new device and rebuild the mirror. However, the hot-plug event for the new device does not update the ID_PATH (i.e. /dev/disk/by-path) variable of udevinfo. Without performing a reboot, is there a command line method to update this?

Thxs,

Ron

Depending on your exact version of udev, there are ways to refresh and/or repopulate /dev nodes. Check your man page for udev or udevd for the exact means on your system, as udev has changed a lot over time and commands that apply to one version may not work for another.

Example for my Slackware 11 machine (using udev's supporting init script):

bash# /etc/rc.d/rc.udev force-reload

For future reference, kindly provide information such as which Linux you are using, or add it to your profile, so it can be easier to help you without requesting more info
