how do i retrieve mail manually with postfix in redhat linux 9.0 server


after i type telnet ISP server name 25 i get
trying 45.223.156.2...
connected to ISP mail server
Escape character is '^]'.
220 ISP server name ESMTP Postfix

and then nothing comes up.

Hi, and welcome to LQ

postfix is a smtp server, so it's used to send emails.
If you want to retrieve mail from CLI, then you must know the protocol used by your mail server. It could be pop, or imap, so you have to telnet to port 110 or 143 respectively. Take a look here for the pop commands and here for the imap commands.
