Unhappy Hi wants to replace harddisk


Hi,

I have installed Rhel4 in my Hardisk in p3 machine and wants to replace it from p3 machine to p4 machine
do i face any problem data loss while replacing the machine... please help me how do i do it....

No, you should have any data loss.

However it is always a good idea to have a backup.

As long as the hardware is working in RHEL4 you should have no issues.

Just to be sure: you want to just swap your disk from one machine to another?

yes, we just wants to upgrade from P3 machine to P4 machine by replacing the hard disk....

As long as you are not changing anything in the hard disk, there should be no data loss in the replacement. Always have a backup though ...

Well, at one time you could not move a linux OS like that. Under some odd instances the older installers would do some task that was machine specific.

Be sure to read the above post about backup first.

I think the offical RH documents did say to use installer then copy your data to the new install.

At worst you disk will not boot or work properly if the hardware in P3 and P4 are different enough, but should be no data loss.

But of course it's never hurt to have backup.
