SL -6
startx donnt run,what's wrong?

xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): no server "/usr/bin/X" in PATH
Use the -- option, or make sure that /usr/bin is in your path and
that "/usr/bin/X" is a program or a link to the right type of server
for your display. Possible server names include:
Xorg Common X server for most displays
Xvfb Virtual frame buffer
Xfake kdrive-based virtual frame buffer
Xnest X server nested in a window on another X server
Xephyr kdrive-based nested X server
giving up.
xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.

did you install the "Gnome desktop environment" ,or xfce, or kde , at the time of install ???

the reason i ask is running "startx" is not needed
gdm ( gnome) or kdm ( KDE ) will do that for you . The system will auto boot into the gui -- if you installed one --

If I recall correctly, selecting "webserver" for SL6 does not install a GUI by default. The "Desktop" option does.

I think yum install gnome-desktop should do it.
I would expect it to pull down X as dependency. I don't have any way of testing it tonight, though.
