Help needed for debugging a Dovecot IMAP + Kmail issue

Hi,

I have a dovecot 1.2.9 imap-server running in my LAN. On my desktop I am running a Kubuntu 12.04 with a Kmail client v. 4.8.5.

The dovecot is configured to use Maildir -mailbox format.

I have a problem in creating folders in the server. When I create a folder in the Kmail. I start getting persistent notifications on my desktop like "Palvelin: Unknown error. (Could not create collection test resourceId: 11)" Where "Palvelin" is my account name on the dovecot server. The folder does not appear in the Kmail folder tree. However, it does get created in the /home/<account>/Maildir -folder.

Also, I cannot delete a folder but get the Notification: "IMAP Palvelin: Failed to delete the folder, restoring folder list."

My read and write permissions to the Maildir where originally 700. I changed them to 777 but it does not help.

In the log file /var/log/mail.info .log .warn or .err (on the server) is no help.
There is logging information which looks ok. except that I seem to log in and out and then again in automatically when I launched my Kmail client.

I cannot figure out what is the problem ?

The KDE Notifications seem to be persistent on my Desktop and pop up regularly until I stop the dovecot on my server.

I do not figure out if the issue is in the dovecot or in the Kmail either.

Thanks for the help.

Mika

Disregard. I have been using POP3S. Nevver checked if I could make top level dirs in IMAP. Tested and was only able to make sub-dirs from INBOX dow. Guess I will check this out later to day.

Thanks.

I am actually using the local server to archive messages in a centralized location. I did intially consider IMAP more appropriate than POP3 since the POP3 will always download the messages from a server to the local client but now with a second thought, this is perhaps for the inbox only. Maybe POP3 is useable in my application.

I did also discover the following bug report which explains my issue: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=291143

Now I know that my version has the bug reported above. I am not sure if I will update to the latest versions of software at this point. Maybe I try POP3 as suggested above.
One issue remains, however: the Akonadi keeps posting disturbing Notifications on my KDE desktop in regular intervals. I do not know how to clear the error Notification without stopping the services, which I do not want to do. Any advice on that ?

Mika
