i wanted to setup my server as a internet service sharing (router). i have configured evrything. even i configured squid.conf. but the thing is that i am getting some error on squid.conf.(Bungled squid.conf line 53: http_port 192.168.1.100 :8080 ). i even tried to solve this problem . but invain i couldnt do anything because it make another file called squid.conf.swp.

could you please tell me how to remove this swap file

thanks in advance

just delete the file, it's just a vi lock file by the look of it. so yeah you have a duff line in the config file, no : should be there. you do realise that you don't need squid if you want the box to be a "router"? routing and proxying are very different things...

sachin_shetty 10-30-2006 03:37 AM

thank a lot dear friend

i deleted the squid file and copied new squid from squid.conf.default

as you suggested me to there is no need of proxy. could you plz tell how can i cofigure my linux box as a cache server in order to boost(Accelerate)up the internet speed

acid_kewpie 10-30-2006 03:42 AM

well that IS a proxy... stick with squid if that's what you want.

Dear Squid is very nice thing.

Dear

i recommended to use squid. as it is very nice caching server.
and you can control all things.
mainly Bandwidth control, which i think is more important thing foryou as you are running cyber cafe.

pl. use transperant proxy which give you very nice facility in cyber cafe environment.

Thanks.
with warm Regards,
Ashish Barot.

when ask ask clearly:)

Dear Sachin

I know that what you want to ask but it was a difficult one for The RHCE guy to answer thats not his mistake because when you know a lot you need a clear question what you are asking any way.

I think that you have Linux server in your cafe and you need you users to use your Proxy server because you have less bandwidth and you need some good speed in your cafe. if this is the question you want to ask then let me know I will help you out to configure your squid as transparent server. and do check if you can configure the DHCP server.

thanks

stick to the question man
dear shahz

in my first post my question was "can anybody out there help me to configure squid.conf." ".(Bungled squid.conf line 53: http_port 192.168.1.100 :8080 )." " how to delete the squid.conf.swp file"

this question was so simple to answer. but the thing is that nobody answer me in a clear manner expect ashih and acid kewpie.

anyway thanks a lot for the instant help
