I am beginner of the cluster so i have some question which is explaining given below
1)what is the basics, which i have to read for the rhel cluster like heartbeat, quorum, fencing & what are other???
heartbeat = Who will judge that the node is up or down the member nodes on that cluster??
they will send multicast heartbeat for ever 10 seconds, in two node cluster that is ok but if 5 node cluster the it's difficult ?? so i need help to clarify that one
quorum = The Quorum Disk is a small shared disk that both nodes can access at the same time. Whichever node is currently the active node writes to the disk periodically (usually every couple of seconds) and the passive node checks the disk to make sure the active node is keeping it up to date. When a node stops receiving heartbeats from its partner node it looks at the Quorum Disk to see if it has been updated. If the other node is still updating the Quorum Disk then the passive node knows that the active node is still alive and does not start the cluster services.
1) quorum is a separate disk from the shared storage ????
2) quorum server also their if quorum disk is not allocated ???
3) quorum identify the node which have the 50% quorum value that have only rights two read/write on the shared storage at a time so on what bases they get these values if the split brain happen then what happen
Fencing = confusion (As i read from net it's look's like the quorum/fencing are more closer. need more clarification on that
In two node cluster active/passive when active node goes unreachable/down at that time fencing up that passive node inito active node & handover all the services which is manage by the previous server.
So the Fencing is responsible for delegating the authority of the cluster service to the active node
if their is any link for the basics please share it
First of all provide some more clarity which cluster you want to install Veritas or Redhat cluster,
if veritas is your preffered one then in the next thread i provide you some more datail....
rhel cluster is my requirement but i think the concepts in rhel cluster & VCS may be the same.
& all these thing which i what to know are in both rhel cluster & in veritas so first i want the basic
of the cluster like heartbeat, quorum,Fencing if more then tell so as i mention in my thread my need is to know the basis & i have these question which i elaborate in my thread
thanks for txt file have u any details about quorum disk at what level of installation we mention it
1) their is two type of cluster one is global & other one is local these are the type of cluster failover, parallel, high bride,
2) in global cluster the storage also replication like we have 2 data center A & B in each location with one node cluster & storage. so the replication of the storage happen in that scenario.the data which is been in A location also in B location ?? that's we called VVR if you have some detail on it please share
