Angry Guardian OS - cannot add default gateway

Hello all:

I am new to Linux but here it goes. I am setting up a SNAP 4500 server running the Guardian OS. By default it is setup with DHCP and it picked up an IP address and DNS settings but it did not pick up the default gateway. Per the SNAP instructions, I connected to the SNAP server through the serial port in the back and using a Hyperterminal session tried to add the default gateway using the following command:

route add default gw <IP address of the gateway>

and came back with "Operation not permitted"

What am I missing?

Thanks,

The Jackel
