Hi all,
I have fedora 7. I have vsftp on it. It was working gud till Friday.
But today when i hit ftp localhost i got an error like
500 OOPS: cannot locate user entry:nobody

the following is my vsftp details:

Since you set userlist_deny=NO

Only the root user will be allowed to FTP. Not only is this not such a good choice from security point of view but might also explain your problem.

Try setting it to yes, and restart your VSFTPD server.

make sure there is "nobody" user in /etc/passwd..
otherwise, create one and don't user "/bin/false" or "/sbin/nologin" for the shell.. just give a simple /bin/bash shell..
and then restart your ftp daemon, try to login again..
