Do you have a gigabit card? how about a gigabit router? how about a gigabit card in all of the computers attached? I sense that might be your problem. Upgrade any that do not have gigabit, or it will either not work or be unstable....
I have two compaq proliants (5500's) with tplink tg-3269's (gigabit card) connected to a 16 port gigabit switch. Three desktops also have gigabit and work brilliantly on the switch(one has the same card as the servers). Yet the freenas boxes are still copying at 100mbps speeds on the gigabit cards?
Are there any settings in freeNAS that are preventing them at running from fullscreen? also, are the ethernet cards properly detected in your boxes?
P.S. Sorry for the delay...
Sorry I must have had a moron moment...I meant full speed. Is it possible tat one of the cards really isn't gigabit? A non-gigabit anywhere would cause slower speeds...
Nope.. they're all brand new and as i said above one desktop has the same card as both servers, and the speeds are good. No idea why it isnt working :s
I just had an Idea...Did you buy the right kind of cable? I believe you need to use cat5e, not cat5. The extra capabilities will make gigabit much better, even if it's not the reason.
By the way, if you need to upgrade you should probably jump straight to cat6a, just to keep up. It has much higher cable frequencies, hence better performance. Make sure you don't have plain old cat5, or it porbably will slow down speeds automatically.
Just check one thing. I don't want to be responsible for you having to tear hundreds of cables out of your wall, so you should probably get a second opinion, or at least try it with a short length first. Otherwise you may be out a lot of time and money for nothing.
