Find a process responsible for initiating ppp connection at startup

Hello there,

i have i problem I'm trying to solve. I have 3 virtual machines, one act as a server, two as clients. I've set a pptp between them.

I start the connection manually by running

Code:
pon my_vpn
(my_vpn is the config file for the peer, located in /etc/ppp/peers)
which initializes the ppp interface on both client and server.

However, I've noticed that one of the client machines starts with the interface loaded, and the other one has to be started manually.

I've looked into /etc/rc2.d and there is not pppd, or anything similar.

I'm looking for ideas to locate the reason for this auto connection.
Any advice is appreciated. Tnx

UPDATE

Managed to get them both working on boot. It was a configuration problem on the first machine. However, still fighting with the reason why is the process started if it's not located in rc2.d?

There are lots of places it could be, have you looked at /etc/rc.d/rc.local ?

Don't have that folder.
I'm running Debian squeeze.

The idea for checking just rc2.d/ was since 2 is the default runlevel.

That shouldn't be your default runlevel unless you're doing weird stuff.. can you explain why?

Isn't it the default Debian runlevel?

My output
Code:
who -r
run-level 2 2012-07-27 00:09
Code:
runlevel
N 2

Been more than a decade since I used Debian but the standard runlevels are 3 for multiuser text console and 5 for multiuser graphical console.
