FibreChannel HBA mapping/mounting

hello

recently we got a Dell/EMC DX300 storage

I want to use it on a HP g4 with CentOS 5.6 and an Emulex LP HBA

* on the storage side the server is logged in, and registered with a RAID6 LUN (0)

* on the server side, the HBA driver (lpfc) is loaded & working

question: how can I use the SAN directly (WITHOUT multipath/powerpath/... -for first step/testing-)???

I don't have any associated device:
lsscsi:
...
[5:0:0:0] disk DGC VRAID 0226 -

nor in the /dev/disk/by-path or ../* folders

thank you!

PS: is there anyone with a valid powerlink.emc.com account?

Hi,

what does dmesg report about the disk?

Powerlink account can be created without any cost. Why don't you register yourself?

nothing usable/new:

Vendor: DGC Model: VRAID Rev: 0226
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 04
scsi 5:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg6 type 0

I created an account, but the CX300 was bought from DELL... and they REMOVE the system serial number (which I cannot find/retrive from anywhere -label, software, firmware...-) so I can not upgrade my "lite" account -> no downloads ;-(

Sorry for the delay. The devices should be reported with a usable device name like sd[a-z].

You do not require powerpath for testing, but if you later wants to make use of multipathing you can install it.

On the other side Dell should support you. Is there no service tag on the cx?

How many paths do you have to each LUN? (And why do you not want to use DM-Multipath?)

As mentioned, you can poke through the kernel messages (see /var/log/messages if the dmesg(8) buffer has rolled away) to determine which /dev/sd* devices are associated with your LUNs. Just be careful - if you have two paths to each LUN, each LUN will appear twice as a disk device there.

thanks for replies

1) IF I put in the storage group associated with the linux server any disks in any RAID level I got only:
lsscsi
...
[6:0:0:1] disk DGC RAID 1 0226 -

so udev do not create any device

2) IF I put only one disk in DISK mode I got:
lsscsi
...
[6:0:0:0] disk DGC LUNZ 0226 /dev/sdb

but I cannot use:
fdisk /dev/sdb

Unable to read /dev/sdb

3) momentary I got only ONE HBA with 1 path

4) Multipath... later first steps first ;-)

5) I got only DELL service tag and that I cannot use (to register) at powerlink.emc.com
and... the prevoius owner told me that I can register only by phone at Dell France
