FC9 : how to eliminate NetworkManager

Hi,

I have just installed FC9 in TEXT mode.

I have disabled the NetworkManager service by un-checking it in <setup>.

But after a reboot I see this in resolv.conf

Code:
# generated by NetworkManager, do not edit!

# No nameservers found; try putting DNS servers into your
# ifcfg files in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts like so:
#
# DNS1=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
# DNS2=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
# SEARCH=lab.foo.com bar.foo.com
Looks like NetworkManager is still alive!!

How do I kill NetworkManager all together.

Please advice.

Thx
Vai

It seems like your interfaces are still being managed by networkmanager checked the NM-MANAGER or something like that is off.

Check the list of all services in <setup>
No services with similar name.

Any other pointers ??

that will be in your /etc/sysconfig/networking-scripts/ifcfg-interface_name file. am not exact on the name of the option but it is NM- something check for that.

Yes, I found "NM_CONTROLLED=yes" in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
I changed it to no.

This is my ifcfg-eth0 now:
Code:
# Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller
DEVICE=eth0
BOOTPROTO=none
BROADCAST=192.168.1.255
HWADDR=00:19:d1:a6:fa:d3
IPADDR=192.168.1.22
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
NETWORK=192.168.1.0
ONBOOT=yes
NM_CONTROLLED=no
GATEWAY=192.168.1.3
TYPE=Ethernet
DNS1=59.144.127.16
DNS2=59.144.127.17
DNS3=202.54.29.5
DNS4=202.54.10.2
DNS5=202.54.1.18
DNS6=202.54.1.30

I rebooted and the damn NetworkManager is still alive!!

My resolve.conf:

Code:
[root@server ~]# cat /etc/resolv.conf
# generated by NetworkManager, do not edit!

# No nameservers found; try putting DNS servers into your
# ifcfg files in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts like so:
#
# DNS1=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
# DNS2=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
# SEARCH=lab.foo.com bar.foo.com
nameserver 59.144.127.16
nameserver 59.144.127.17

Any ideas ??

What is the output of
Code:
/etc/init.d/NetworkManager status
The /etc/resolv.conf was originally set by NetworkManager, but it has been left untouched since you have disabled the NM service. Look at the timestamp of /etc/resolv.conf and see if it is older than the last reboot time.

The file /etc/resolv.conf is modified only if you change the DNS server by means of the Administration -> Network tool... or if you edit it manually!
