Exim4 + Dovecot + Roundcube/Squirrelmail
 

Hi guys.

I am wanting to setup an email server using exim4 and Dovecot.

I currently have 2 servers which i use for NFS, Squid cache amongst other things (debian and ubuntu).

I cannot seem to locate any good guides (except for german) to explain how to configure exim4 to deliver to virtual mailboxes and have Dovecot use virtual users/mailboxs and provide this via pop3/imap.

I am wanting to have the virtual users configured in a mysql database instead of passwd or similar files.

Could someone possibly provide any suitable guides for this?

If you aren't set on using Exim, I would recommend using Postfix. There are plenty of good how to documents to explain how to configure that. It works with Dovecot, MySQL, roundcube or squirrelmail, etc. The most popular how to is by Flurdy (search flurdy postfix). I personally like the one by Johnny Chadda. Alot of people seem to recommend Zimbra as being a real easy way to go for setting up your own mail server.

If I recall correctly this guide uses courier instead of Dovecot. From the questions in the forums, it looks like this makes the SASL authentication more complicated than it needs to be. Keep that in mind as your installation with Dovecot may be easier.

I was hoping for guides for exim4 + dovecot as i had this setup a year ago before my server box died. (hard drive crash with no backups, unlucky for me.. my fault for no backups)

Unfortunately i lost the documentation i had for that over time.
