eth0: memory squeeze, deferring packet.

HI,

I am seeing this message on the console screen of a virtual RHEL 4 server. The only references I can find on this date back to 2001 with a 2.4 kernel. I am running 2.6.9-42.ELsmp #1 SMP Wed Jul 12 23:27:17 EDT 2006 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux. This virtual server is running on a VMWARE ESX 3 server which has amd opteron processors in it.

It has 10 gigs of memory assigned to it and 2 gigs of swap. It also is running Websphere 6.0.

Has anyone seen this in the past or recently and do you know what it means. I believe is is causing the server to freeze and perform poorly.

Thanks
Dan

Your running low on memory at whatever time your getting that message.

Might need to run sysstat to get an idea of whats going on.
