Error during bootup: mount: special device LABEL=san_data does not exist

Has anybody have any ideas why I'd be receiving this error. I have created a partition and filesystem and put the label in fstab. Everytime I reboot the server it is unable to mount the filesystem. However I am able to mount it manually. Ideas?

What is the command you use to mount it manually? I'm just confirming the "obvious" -- that you are mounting it manually by label.

mount /san_data. It mounts fine and we can use the filesystem.

That is only fully clear in conjunction with the fstab line. Can you post that please?

san_data suggests a storage area network ... ?

You seem to be confusing two items of information.

The error is relating to a filesystem label, but the command you demonstrated relates to a mount point.

Can you post the contents of /etc/fstab?

Well what I meant was that if the Label didn't exist or it was set up incorrectly I wouldn't be able to mount the filesystem but I am able to. It just won't do it during server reboots. It is a SAN storage that I added which I've done for several other servers identically and they seem to start up fine. Right now I mounted it manually and we are using that file system. Here is the fstab syntax:

LABEL=san_data /san_data ext3 defaults 0 0
